Hotter the fluid temp the R/T is faster, colder the fluid temp the R/T is slower. I believe the button boys found this out with the miracle AX delay box, I mean button having to keep it the same temp as possible every run to be consistant.
I have a hard enough time having a consistant R/T without having the car throw another variable at me for the R/T.
Take the time to build a good linkage and you will not regret it!
