You have to keep in mind that the return is only there to return what is not sent to the carb (obviously). Our carb can't handle anything above 4 psi or it bubbles over. The high pressure from the pump ensures constant fuel at the regulator and therefore, carb. The regulator is filling the carb as fast as the carb will allow, and we never have any issues with running lean on the top end. EGT's dictate that. We have a good fuel curve and it's regulated smooth and proper through the gear changes and acceleration. That's hard to do with a heavy stick car like ours. An automatic should be a little less volitile. No need to dead head if you don't have to. Hope this helps a little.
