Re: Oddball Muscle Cars
I worked at at parts store in 1982 and got a call one day from a service station we sold and delivered parts to. They had customer who was driving 1966 4 Dorr Bel Air from south Louisiana back to somewhere up north. Owner of Texaco called to get rocker arm for Bel Air with a 427 engine and when looking up in TRW book it listed Hi-Perf or std 427 engine. When I asked which one it was the owner of the Texaco told me "hell, I don't know. How do you tell?." I just told him I would have to pick up either at the warehouse and would come by and look to see myself.
When I got to the Texaco there sat a 1966 Bel Air 4 door sedan. Black with black interior, bench seat 427/425HP, 4 speed car that was previously a Louisiana Sheriffs patrol car. All original and new owner was taking car back home to Missouri. Car was amazingly original with factory wheel covers, plain jane interior, original carb and shifter. Owner wouldn't tell me what he gave for car but sure was an unusual vehicle and stiil had spot light on drivers side windshield post.
