Yes, this Q-Jet is a legal replacement since both have a venturi size of 1.093 inches. In the world of Quadrajets, in my opinion, there isn't one particular number that is better than another. You just have to build one and try it and then if you can, compare it with others. The truth is that you are at the mercy of the core. Some are just better that others and the only way to find out is to try it on the car. One word of caution, DO NOT believe dyno figures when it comes to Quadrajets! The one that makes the most HP may not produce the quickest E.T. Dynos don't move or shift gears. Hope this helps. Danny
