Seats

Mr. Teuton's thread reminded me of a question I've been meaning to ask on here. I'm going to have to use aftermarket racing seats so my helmet is 3" under the roll bar, but I want them to look like they belong in a 1970 Nova - not like they came out of a late model Corvette or a European sports car. (It might seem picky, but I'm a picky guy.) Does anybody have any tips or advice for me?

Also, according to Section 16, part 6:2, it says the seat must bolt to the crossbar. Is it possible to meet that requirement and still have an adjustable seat, or do I just have to give up on that?

Looks like Dennis has a solution for your height issue. The adjustable seat is easy to deal with;
This is what I?ve seen;
Weld a tube perpendicular on the cross bar centered on the seat. Fabricate a smaller tube that fits within the bigger tube with a plate on the end to bolt to the seat. Drill a hole through the tube welded onto the crossbar and holes as required in the tube/bracket that mounts to the seat for different seat positions. Then just put a bolt through it.
BUT be careful about the geometry of the whole thing try to make sure you get it on the same plane as your seat brackets.
Also I think some of the chassis guys sell a kit to do this.

I've seen kits like this one: http://www.jegs.com/images/photos/55040485.jpg
but I'm concerned that the pre-drilled holes in the bracket wouldn't necessarily correspond with the notches in the seat slider. If I made my own, I could drill the holes exactly where they need to be. I think a slot would be pretty slick, but I don't know if that would always pass tech; it probably depends on the tech guy.

Dennis, what's the best time to call?
