There is a guy named John Brown from the Detroit area that ran a 383 in a 68 Roadrunner. The car was an absolute bullet. I don't know what class he was in but I remember the car was exceptionally fast.

Guys : Remember the '68 Roadrunner had a much better set of heads, a cast iron hi-rise intake, a much larger carb. and a good cam to go with it. The '66 383 is lacking all of the above.

The '68 Road Runner 383 had 440 internals. The 906 heads have nicer ports, but have open chambers. The '66 383 516's are closed chamber heads.

cyclecyko, Are you going to run the 325 hp combo in your wagon?

Also considering the 383 combination for a '66 Coronet, I believe the tech sheets also allow for the 2780915 heads, correct?

Yep. The 915 is legal for any of the 66' 383's, but you'll need to run the smaller 1.6 exhaust valve. It's been said valve to piston clearance on the stocker 383's can either limit camshaft options or you'll need to drop the compression. That's what I've picked up in the pits. I will find out for myself when I start assembly of my 69' 383 in a couple of months. The 69' engine is a little tighter than your 66'.

There's not much camshaft lift in those 66' 383's either. Super Stock may be a better option for that engine. Don Little is having some success with a SS 383, but then again it's Don Little.

I don't know if Chrysler made any 1966's with a hemi but I know for certain they made 1967's with the Hemi, a good friend of mine owned one when new then he was reunited with it in the early 90's. He ordered it to tow a boat from the local dealership, it took several months to get in. He switched it to a single four intake he bought from a Nascar team because "the gas mileage was terrible towing the boat".

I never believed him until he showed me the invoice, the pictures of it and covered under 2" of dust the original 2x4 intake complete with carbs, linkage and aircleaner. That was in 1988.
