MT vs Hoosier Small Tire

I am currently running an MT 3754X - effectively a 28x10 (actual tread width) (11.4 section) Radial with an R2 "Medium" compound.

I bought a set of wheels with a set of Hoosier 18155 on them, 28 x 10 (actual tread width) (12.3 section) C07 bias ply.

I also have a set of MT 3060R, 30x9 (actual tread width) (12.5 section) R1 "less medium" compound unmounted that I was actually wanting to use and bought the wheels for.

And this got me thinking - out of everybody that runs Stock and SStock across the country, surely somebody has some notes that they could share to a SSt fellow.

The 3754's are all I have known, as the Drag & Drives require the DOT stamp for 11.0 index. But they are borderline unpredictable and require a lot of glue to work well. I got the 3060's used in hopes that a taller tire, despite being narrower, would help in that regard. I don't necessarily launch hard, but I have a lot of weight to get moving down low.

4400 pounds
Procharged Small Block (EFI)
3200 launch, 1.98 low Glide
1.5x short time

Hoosier is the #1 brand of racing slick in all of drag racing, run by more racers than all otters combined, They also hold air and are fast. Goodyear and M/T which is owned by Goodyear are used by some of the biggest names too. Keep in mind also, that all three have deals with many racers. Phoenix is another tire run by some racers, mostly in super stock.

That all said. you eluded that you plan to compete in S/ST and IMO your choice of tire should not be your concern, rather your choice of car and combo.

When we ran TS we tried MT, Goodyear & Hoosier. Hoosier Hands down gave us our best times and also best value for our money. And we never had a Hoosier leak down! Hoosier for the win!

I've run several sets of both brands of typical stocker tires. 30x9 radials. Cars both ran great on either brand. The difference is MT's had cords showing at 75ish runs. Hoosiers I easily get 100+ runs out of a set. I've spoken to a couple MT reps and they say that's normal and were unwilling to do anything for me on a new set.

Any of the Racing Slicks you mentioned will be fine
on a car with 1.5 @ 60 and a glide unless there is a major
chassis issue.

From personal experience, I believe M/T makes the best "Big" tire. Had a set of 32x13 hoosiers that were down right awful. I put 14.5x32 MTs on and its been amazing ever since and I get tons of runs out of them. I've also had great luck with Phoenix big tires (radial construction) that came off a SS car like 1320 eluded to. As far as a smallish tire like you are wanting to run, I've heard nothing but good things about the 30x9 Hoosier from all who run it. They work better, live longer, and hold air. At this point, the people that run MT/Goodyear have to be on deals in order to overlook the Hoosiers the way I see it.

4400 pounds tho. If it weighed 2800 it'd be more like a 1.30 60ft. Would it still be true if that were the case?

Try what you have on hand first imo.

If you want a DOT bias tire(slick) , I would look at the Hoosier Quick Time Pros. I've used them for index classes as well as others with success requiring DOT tires.

Ed, I just have to ask how you know what tires all these otters are running? Just kidding man, I thought it was a funny auto correct when I read it.
