Fuel Check & Scales
 

I'm going to my first Division race at Bakerfield in a week and a half for the double race. I have a few break in runs on the car from some ANRA events.
I raced Super Street and Super Gas from the mid 80's to 2000 and I've had to weigh once a race in those classes but I don't remember how accurate their scale is and I'm new to fuel check.
Do you bring your own cup or do they have some for fuel check?
How much extra weight do you bring to adjust for different scales? (right now I only have about 10lb extra)
I printed my tech card but I can't get the website to accept payment, luckily they have pay at the gate available.

Hi Mike,

Welcome to stock division 7 racing. They will provide the cup for fuel check. As far as scale variances, I never need more than 30 pounds to make up diferences in scales from track to track. However, you really need to know what your car weighs. If your 50 lbs lite for your class, your going to need to drop down a class or add +/- 70 lbs to get in the desired class.

At Bakersfield their scales are the old balance beam. I think every other track has electronic scales. They set it to your min weight and if it moves you’re fine. Just about every S/SS racer carries extra weight with them so I’m sure they will lend you some if needed. As for fuel check they supply a cup. Just make sure you have a way of getting your fuel under the hood.

Thanks guys, for the info on weight and fuel check. My adjustable weight for the weight box is in 5lb mesh bags. I only have 5 right now and need all of them to make the minimum. I got a little carried away building a light car and already added big weight bars in the trunk. I'll try to get some more 5lb bags ready before the Bakersfield race.

We will be at the race and will have extra weight
in the trailer.

It is not unusual for that track to have scale problems.

You are already at the minimum weight for the lightest
class your car is legal to run?

John, I could make the minimum for AA which would be the lightest class. When I started building the car I was looking at B or C. A few changes in the engine build and it became a natural A car but it’s not 9 second legal right now. To make B takes a whole lot more weight so A it is.

The tech people may not be happy with mesh bags. All weight has to be properly secured. The weight box can be a 100 lbs or less including the box.

They are in the enclosed weight box. -
"Weight boxes (two maximum) made of
1/8-inch material may be constructed to hold small items such
as shot bags, lead bars, etc., as long as box and contents
do not weigh more than 100 pounds or as outlined in Class
Requirements. The box must be securely fastened to the frame
or crossmember with at least two 1/2-inch-diameter steel bolts"

Did not know how much or where you were putting the weight just hoping you have a smooth experience. Iam fully aware of the rules.

Actually you can only have 50lbs max in two separate weight boxes totaling 100lbs in the stock class. See below:
BALLAST
Weight box permitted. Only 100 pounds removable ballast permitted, including box (two-box maximum with 50 pounds each).Must be attached to frame or crossmember with minimum of two 1 /2-inch bolts. May not be attached to roll bar or cage. Additional ballast must be permanently attached to frame or crossmember, i.e., bolted with at least two 1/2-inch bolts per 100 pounds, with nut welded to bolt. See WEIGHT. See General Regulations 4:2.
