SS/CS Chevrolet Cylinder Heads...

Hello Gentlemen… Who would be the "go to" guy for preparing a set of Legal SS/CS Chevrolet Small Block Cylinder Heads and Intake? Does anybody have anything sitting on a shelf, new or used possibly for sale? Seeking information or components for a friend. Thank you… Maurice.

The hardest part it seems right now is the shortage of castings. We ran the Bowtie Vortec castings for all of the years and they were so prone to cracking that it was a big issue. The later Dart iron heads that were approved were MUCH more reliable, but are no longer available from what I've heard.

If you wanted to start from scratch and can get some Bowtie Vortec heads, Gary Hettler did fantastic work for us.

Good morning to all,
The Vortec castings were good but were very crack prone. Had tried to help with coatings but to no avail. The Dart castings worked very well and didn't crack, availability is a problem. Maybe there's another casting that can be used, but not sure at this time. Once Iron starts to crack, it doesn't stop.

Chevy never learned how to cast iron heads that didn’t crack. When I was a Batten Heads in early 80’s we had a couple NASCAR TEAM’s using the 292 heads we shipped them heads weakly. When the first BowTie head came out they could run a set more than one race. We won the first CUP RACE withe Bow tie heads that was Race Hill Farms with Ron Bouchard.
