Rear brake drum help!!??

Hey guys I need some help.....pulled the tires off the cutlass last night...it has one alum. drum on one side & a cast iron smooth one on the other. The brake shoes look OK but not real good so I'm going to replace them....now then how do I get or where can I get a smooth cast iron or an alum drum so I can match things up? I went to Advance tonight & YEP we have them....yea...cast iron finned! NOT going to work WAY to heavy! so any ideas? I had the guy look up some other cars & all had the finned cast iron! OH almost forgot the car is an 88 olds ctulass with an 8.5 10 bolt.....drums are 9.5" inside dia. shoes are 2" thanks guys! ;)

Easier to find the alum drums on Ebay than scouring local boneyards.

Try looking for rear drums for 67-9 camaro 10 bolt, should be the smooth ones, can still get them from napa up here in the snowy north!

Maybe can help you out with either an aluminum or CI drum. What part number is stamped in the aluminum drum you have?

3rd gen Camaros from 86 up should be a good place to find the Aluminum drums.....

Be aware though that I have experienced a loss of brake "hold" on the line with the Aluminum drums....proper arc of the shoes would be particularly important, always use NEW shoes, not relined.
I went back to the old reliable finned iron drums.

Have someone you know that has a brake lathe and they can smooth out the cast iron drum. Just takes a little time. Also you can turn down the big lip (some fords have them, not sure on the cheby stuff). It should save on some weight...But with the price of shoes and drums, have you priced the aerospace rear kit yet?

Hey Greg, if you want to follow Duane's advice, I have a new-in- box Aerospace setup for 10 and/or 12 bolts with C-clip eliminators.
