I have had good service with the Red Line Transmission fluids. Even though I foot brake, I still leave pretty high on the converter. There wasn't any heat related issues that I found when I serviced the units after racing them. Any one of the Good Name Brand Synthetic fluids should hold up pretty well. Check with your transmission builder and see what they recommend and ask about fluid replacement intervals. You can beat the hell out of even the best stuff if you don't service and replace the fluids at regular intervals / runs. I hope this helps, and have a good day. Respectfully, Henry Kunz 1534 H/SA |
Re: Trans Fluid?
Hi Tom,
Ive been running dexron from Oreilly for a long time, and my powerglide has never shown any type of wear during tear down. Scott Wickersham/Council Bluffs and Dave Ross/Fremont have both had it apart over the past 2 years (broke planetary, replaced and then upgraded the planetary when part arrived). Otherwise, it gets freshened every 4th or 5th season. I put about 250-300 passes per season on it. No band adjustments ever needed, either. 6700 rpm Coan converter, 3000 lbs in my S10. Glide was also in my 68 with an ATI converter for a long time, also. Dave had me run BTE syn, and when I had the planetary upgraded, I went back to running Dexron.... Clark Doukas Omaha |
Re: Trans Fluid?
For keeping it simple I use Valvoline that I can buy at Walmart. Blue jug is conventional red jug is synthetic.
