Sbc headers.

Anybody ever try a header with a flat 4 collector anstead of square 4? Just wondering if it is a good or bad idea.

It's been tried, not such a good idea.

I have used them but only for ground clearance issues. No way this is going to improve performance.

On the subject of collectors, I have a pair of 4-2-1`s. I thought about merging them to a cheap set of headers. Thoughts ?

If you can get them phased correctly they may show you something.

Mark,
Have you tried them?
I got a pair from Wojo when I got his old wagon.. He said he never used them. I did put longer collectors on, per Al Peters, and that was worth .05
I expect it would pick up the bottom, but how much?

Good evening to all,
I'm still using my Flowmaster 4-2-1 collectors, be for warned if you're going to use them with a " tight " lobe seperation , they don't work well with that.
The flowmasters seem to like a little wider lobe seperation angle. The Burns style collector works better with a tight lobe seperation. At least tha'ts what I've found over the years, and you have to try some adjustments to get everything from them.

Respectfully,

I was going to recommend a consult with Billy Nees.. BUT, it kinda sounds like he's been there, done that...

Greg, at REF in Kingman, AZ says: they work for low comp. motors. not so good on higher comp. he said the 305/307 Chevy and small Olds engines would be OK, but not at real high RPM. [although, I dont know what high RPM would be in those]
