New question for a noob
we are building a 1970 454 450 horse chevelle, I saw in another post someone said 460 horse but on the nhra website it still says 450. Is there another page that shows the nhra corrected or ahfs if this combo has gotten horsepower over the years. Second when I am looking at the classification guide there is a page to the left that shows what i think is the wieght that the car should be but when i calculate the 8.36 X 450 it comes out to more than that number (around 3660) to around 3780 then the 170 comes to almost 4000 lbs. Question is, this puts the car in a/sa do i have to run the 8.36 or can i put the car at 8.0 lbs per hp. when we move down to b/sa do i use the 8.5 lb per hp to get the wieght and lastly will this car fit in aa/sa
sorry so wordy thanks alot. |
Re: New question for a noob
At the bottom of the list of classification numbers for the different body styles is the factored hp if any, in your case it says 440hp so thats what you use to determine your weight to start. Adjust to the top of your class ofcourse.

Re: New question for a noob
To clarify, if it is 440HP then it would be 440x8.0+170 or 3690 total weight with driver for A/S or A/SA. B/S would be 3910.
If it is a natural "A" car (which it would be if 8.36 is correct) then I would assume AA/SA would be acceptable since you can move up or down one class. Check with NHRA on that since AA/SA is a new class. If it is capable of AA/SA, you better shoot for deep into the 9's! |
Re: New question for a noob
You are way better off building a '71.
I know I did it years ago. (Stagg Chili) held B/SA record. Very favorable hp. Nearly the identical engine. Only have to change bumpers and headlight doors from dbl to single. |
