I'm trying to determine what the rules are pertaining to a 1967 Shelby 428 with dual fours and flattop pistons combo for SS.

new engine is using the Edelbrock heads, BBM block, Winberg crank, 55mm LSM cam, Manley rods, Gibtec pistons etc.

is there any difference in piston configuration required by NHRA from 67 to 70 for example,.

I was previously running the CJ 428 iron head combo in a 1970 Cougar in SS/HA

You have to look at the NHRA Accepted Products List for the appropriate parts. There is no NHRA approved Winberg crankshaft for the 427 FE and there is no Manley approved connecting rods for the Ford FE engines either.

The pistons have the same compression height and are flat with notches from 1967 to 1969. The only approved Edelbrock cylinder heads are P/N 60058 (Stock and Super Stock) and P/N 61857 (Super Stock only).

yes I have the 60058 Edelbrock heads with the NHRA emblem cut into them, prepared by Clairidge racing heads to the NHRA port volume specs as listed on the site.

I had another set of the 60058 in the boxes which I sold and now regret, maybe I'll try to find some pro-port versions.

wondering if anyone has run the 2 x 4 setup, i'll contact NHRA as well

Wait! This is a SS combination. "Flat w/notches" is the only configuration required.

Molnar has a rod that is "legal" that will keep it alive above 6500 RPM.
Probably needs to do the BB Chevy rod bearing size modification too.
428's had a lot of issues with RPM until Blair Patrick got the 361 truck crank and Chevy Bearing and Crower Rod combination approved.

I have a set of those Crower rods in my 428, be prepared to break open the piggy bank.
