wireless remote winch control

Racers, what wireless winch controller is giving you good service?

I've been using a badlands winch controller from harbor freight (39.00) . It will adapt to any winch that I have found as long as you have relay's that work the winch.Only problem I have had is keeping the batteries up in handheld controller.

I bought this one on Amazon for $18 and I'm happy with it so far.

I put a Warn remote on my Warn winch. It skips sometimes and I’ve had it actually reverse direction without any notice. Range is maybe 30 ft. From the winch. I wouldn’t buy another one. They aren’t cheap either.

Mr J, I bought the item you have posted from Amazon and will report the results once it is installed.

First edition (2012) was Tommy Johnson, Italian mfg. I believe. "Very" expensive but probably the worst functioning electronic item I've ever purchased. Worked intermittently, often stuttering between on and off which, of course, rocks an unhooked trailer violently. Other times it simply failed to connect at all.

Second edition (2015) was a Superwinch, claimed US mfg. Only 50% of the above in price but has functioned flawlessly since install. A remnant of the above install is a bit of suspense every time I push the button but, so far, no hint of any issues. Additionally, this kit is much more robust in its manufacture and assembly than the first (import) kit.

Good luck.

Just curious how the wireless signal gets to the winch, is there an antenna that attaches to the winch itself? On my trailer, the winch is mounted below the floor, which is checker plate aluminum, so the entire winch is underneath, inside a steel box, below the aluminum floor, with a sheetmetal "trap door" above it. So, my concern, is if I would have a problem with a wireless control running the winch, with it located under the floor, surrounded by metal. (It is a Warn winch, if that matters.)

Roy, I just finished installing the $18.00 kit posted above. I built a harness extension that plugs into the winch and extends into the trailer compartment then mounted the controller on the wall. So far, so good. Works fine. [yes, it has a built-in antenna]

I also made a double plug with a 4-way trailer connector that allows changing between the wireless and the hard-wired remote switch.

The Superwinch version has a short antenna, similar to a 2 inch portable radio antenna, mounted on a small receiver box (with mounting tabs) which plugs into an 8 ft extension cable from the winch connection.
