Vintage RO23/WO23 Camshaft Specs Engle L-158B RB-R-72
I hope this is the right spot to ask.
Reading in Schild's book about the RO23/WO23 of 1967. They just came with a street hemi cam (as if) but recommended 2 cams for SuperStock. Both are solid rollers. Engle L-158B Racer Brown R-72 or 72R Does anybody have any specs on these? Lobe lifts, valve lifts, advertised duration / events, .050 duration (LOL)? Trying to get a handle on what cams they ran in the 1960s. |

From an old Race Brown catalog the 72-R was 318 degrees duration and ..570" Valve lift. They did not list very much about their cams back then.

I found this handy chart, looks like older cams but with Advertised and .050 duration. Just lobes, no LSA given. The 72-R isnt on there & there's no correlation between the cam number and duration. IT does seem like, for the rollers, the .050 duration is about 40 degrees less than advertised, give or take a few. |

Too cool post, I had a Racer Brown Cam In my '69 383 Road Runner but I don't recall the number. But it provided the desired results and oh by the way what the hell did I know back then. Car Craft Magazine was the bomb in those days.

I heard back from Jim at Racer Brown!
He said 72-R is 276 at .050", 318 at .018" (advertised), usually cut on LSA=105, kinda rough idle then. He listed .050 lobe events as 35-61-65-31 which is 2 degrees of advance. Gross Valve lift .599 intake, .580 exhaust which works out to .3815 lobe lift with 1.57 intake and 1.52 exhaust rockers. So there you go, he did say he can still make that one but could cut a more modern grind too. |
