Question for LT1 Firebird racers
The guide says that a 1997 & '98 LT1 Formula with the WS6 Ram Air option falls at 8.41. This make it able to run AA/SA. I have never seen one in that class and was wondering why. Do you think it's because it is difficult to make the minimum weight of 2855 w/ driver or is there something else. Thanks for your input.

Don't see how you could get one that light legally with a driver.

A/SA is pretty easy to get to the top of the class. The harder you want to work the close you can get to the class minimum.

Re: Question for LT1 Firebird racers
My ‘97 Firebird that I raced in A/FIA back around 2006 weighed 3050 with me in it. I did get some weight out if it to get that light. Wilwood Front disc brakes saved 45lbs.
It was a well built car and pretty light. I’m sure I could have gotten it to be lighter. It had stock seats and a weight box. Aftermarket seats, no weight box would save some weight. It had a full cage. Full carpeting. One 30-40lb battery. I weigh around 150 The LT-1 HP rating is pretty high and your at a disadvantage in any class to some other cars. They were way underrated when new but got hammered over the years. Not many out there that run with the class competition |
