Balancing Weld Pro Stars?
Bought a new set of Weld Pro Stars, front and rear and can't get them to balance good. The center hub seems to rattle and that changes the balance desired weight. Tried a few different cones ,front of rim and back and results were the same.
Thanks in advance. |
Re: Balancing Weld Pro Stars?
I had to get mine balanced on a "hub" with 5 studs to get the centers located properly.

Re: Balancing Weld Pro Stars?
I made an aluminum hub that centers on the wheel balancers arbor. The hub is drilled and tapped for wheel studs. The wheel is mounted to the hub with the proper lug nuts. This works well but there needs to be a good fit between the arbor and the center hole in the hub.

Re: Balancing Weld Pro Stars?
I use my trusty old Harbor Freight Bubble Balancer. Works like a charm.
Just like they do at all the National events. Drag race tires work best doing a Static balance verses a dynamic balance because of tire deformation caused by Spin balancers. |
Re: Balancing Weld Pro Stars?
If you want the center spacer centered for bubble balance push the wheel nuts in the holes you use.

Re: Balancing Weld Pro Stars?
I used the plastic thread covers that come on AN fittings, pushed them into the stud hole to center the spacer when spin balancing...gsa612

Re: Balancing Weld Pro Stars?
Thanks to everyone for the opinions and great ideas. As soon as I can get a day off I a will try this again and post back. I think I am going to buy a bubble balancer in the near future also.
Thanks again and Merry Christmas to everyone. |
Re: Balancing Weld Pro Stars?
Just an update for future . I put valve stems in each hole and just pulled them through so they had some resistance. The wheel balanced perfectly. It appears the new style balancers are very sensitive and that's what was throwing me for a loop. The Mickey ET streets took a lot more weight than the front street tires did. Thanks for the replies and hope this helps others.
