installing oem roller cam in 010 block
 

this cam has the small bolt pattern. got a double roller chain and gears but the chain is rubbing on the block. any suggestions ?

Needs the cam gear with the roller bearing made on it. Roller cam will walk more than a flat tappet. Get the gear with the roller bearing on it and you should be fine. You may want a "button" on it also.

Those cams are meant to be run with a cam plate that sets the cam endplay . The 010 block does not have the provision for that plate . You need measure to see what the dimension is from the cover gasket surface to the surface the cam sprocket runs against . Then compare that dimension with a roller cam block . The Cam sprocket thrust surfaces have different dimensions on the OE roller cam sprocket to deal with that cam plate that you don't have . Once you figure out all these dimensions , you will be able to figure out what combinations of shims or thrust bearing , will work along with a thrust button .

Mike,

First of all it is very common for any double roller type chain to rub on the center oil galley area on those blocks. I have gotten in the habit of taking the die grinder to almost all of them before final cleaning.

There is a "kit" available that makes it real easy to use the late model retaining plate setup in the old blocks. I have done 5 of them now and had no problems at all. You can do it yourself if you don't mind some careful measuring but the kit that Gary has makes it a bunch easier. Here is a link to the post on the Team Chevelle forum that describes it:

Once you start using this setup you will never want to mess with a cam button again :)

That is not correct. All of the blocks are machined at the same "level" as the timing cover mounting surface. The thickness of the plate is made up for in the step on the camshaft.

Same as a Big Block. You can put the late model "step nose" cam in any big block. 99% of them are already drilled and tapped anyway.
