Question about converter stall and fallback
I know every combo is different but for you guys running 3 speed automatics what kind of fallback do you want from your shift point.
Reason I’m asking is I feel my converter is too loose with my new motor. It runs good but I think it’s loose but don’t know if it’s worth making a change. This is only a bracket car but I’m shifting at 6400 and it’s only falling back to 6000. Just looking for opinions/suggestions. |
Re: Question about converter stall and fallback
That's a million dollar question and answer, what's your converter slippage % in high gear?
Gear ratio ,hp and tire size comes in to play, It might take a couple of adjustments in the converter to find what works the best |
Re: Question about converter stall and fallback
1/8th mile bracket car only.
it runs low to mid 6.50's weighs 3100 w/driver don't know horsepower. It has 4.86 gear and 29x10 slicks and crosses @6400 |
Re: Question about converter stall and fallback
It would be good to know where it makes peak torque and HP, 6000-6400 sounds like a pretty narrow band to work in.
Hard to say otherwise. |
Re: Question about converter stall and fallback
I think the rpm should fall back to where the engine makes peak torque after the shift.
There is only one way to know for sure. |

Quote:
105 mph is my guess of what it goes, typical mph for 6.50 et, in order to do the equation. 7% is good 1/8 mile but stall is high for 6400 shift, should be around 5000 - 5200 stall 3 speed transmission shifting 6400 rpm. |
Re: Question about converter stall and fallback
I have noticed with customers that every converter/combination is slightly different. Some don't like to hang, some do. Just have to do some testing to get it right.
