Max Wedge heads

Is NHRA going to do something about the lack of max wedge heads out there?. The gm and ford stock/super stock guys have legal alternatives available from the aftermarket. How about letting a Indy, Edelbrock, etc. head be an option.

After watching the performance from Alf Weibe's Buick this weekend, I do not think there is a need for a replacement head. There are still Stage heads available if you want to pay the price for them. I see them all the time in Ebay.

ANY of the muscle car performance heads are available at almost any given time! You want to play in the upper ranks of the class? Then step up to the plate and open your wallet! So that argument has always fallen on deaf ears to me. Now it's just a matter of equality. Everybody should have an edelbrock head available since edelbrock makes a head for just about every brand out there. Those that are not made by edelbrock have other aftermarket sources available.

Sean;

I believe Chrysler does have Max Wedge heads available. The second and third hand information I was told ( so take it only as such) was that Mark Wilson tried to use a set of these "new" heads and had some issues with them, so he ended up having to patch up an old set of original castings and got tossed at the Gators in 2000 or 01 because he had replaced more than 2 valve seats on one of them. I'm sure Mark could set the record straight on this.

This isn't ment to slam Mark in any way. I have known Mark for over 20 years and he is a great guy, even though he is an old Mopar racer. :)

Max Wedge heads that come ofrom Mopar now are junk and almost as bad as the blocks that were made in Mexico and they were real junk.

Re: Max Wedge heads

mopar did recast a few heads the first batch were bad, the last casting about 6 years ago
were better, mopar does have a part number for them but no casting date set yet.

Jimmy, I had heard World or one of the other big name casters were going to do blocks and heads for Mopar

Re: Max Wedge heads

I had asked NHRA to look at several heads as the Mopar racers got nothing. 40 year old stuff and the Chevs and Fords both got Edlebrocks. It was under consideration when Jim Skelly left NHRA. Now I understand World Products has a steel head for the SBC that is not legal because "they are so hard to find". Thry some 906 heads that arent junk, or worse Max Wedge heads. Len, if you read this, this is a joke.
