Help with 65 Impala SS

Hi Guys,

Trying to figure whether or not my Brother in law's 65 Impala has a correct engine. Specifically, the heads.

I believe this to be a 327-250 horse engine. I run this combo in my Wagon.

This, though, has a Carter WCFB carburetor and 461 heads.

Block is matching numbers to the VIN. Just trying to figure out what to do here. Brother in law wants more horsepower and just cruise it. I don't want to modify a matching numbers engine. I suggested a crate motor, and keep the factory one in the corner of the shop.

Any help is appreciated!

You sound like you are looking at an original car. That year 327 was the first year that the 461 heads came on the 250 horse. The earlier 300 horse 327 had them, but they came with a 459 intake and an AFB.The stick cars had the WCFB, and the Powerglide cars came with the 4 jet. Is this car a stick? In 1976 I bought a 65 Impala convertible, 327 3 speed stick, 12 bolt open rear end, had that car 19 years. Great cars back then!!

Yes, Greg.

4 speed car. Only has 126000 miles on it. I'm shocked that the 461's could be stock!

Thanks so much for the help!
