elgin 920p camshaft

Looking for input on a new, in the box camshaft I found in a stash my brother had. Elgin, 920P , "pro stock" grind, found info that shows it has duration 230/230 @ .050, lift .480/.480, 109 LC. I have a spare small block I plan to give some attention to sometime soon. Anyone have info that would be useful with this?

those single pattern camshaft like that work well in street combinations for small blocks.A little soggy on take off but pull good from 3000 on. A little raspy on idle make for a nice sounding street machine'

And, I have never seen an Elgin cam run anything like a Comp, Lunati, etc.

Might advertise that thing in something like BarganPost, etc.

That sounds like a copy of the "Duntov 30-30" cam. The advice from Ed is about right.

Evidently there is more to lobe profiles than many understand.

Thanks for the input Ed. Sounds like I'd be better off putting something better in the spare parts engine I plan to put together. I have a friend with a cool rat-rod that might be able to use this one, to give it a little more thumpy sound than the stock piece it has now. He's not as concerned with performance as he is the cool factor of it. Maybe I'll give it to him.

Just came across a build using that Elgin 920p cam in a 327 +.030 that made 391hp. It was in a 2008 Chevy Hi-Perf magazine. Flat top pistons, Dart Sportsman 2.02 /1.60 heads and a Dart dual plane manifold w Holley 650. They used 1.7 ratio roller rockers as well.

I'd think that cam would be comparable to a popular Comp magnum 280.
Comp sold a lot of those.
