2 step pressure switch question

For a pressure switch for the two step activation...do you prefer an adjustable or a fixed pressure switch? Any operational difference between a 1/8 or 1/4 NPT?

Thanks! -Al

I don't know what kind of car, but I have had no problem using the original brake light switch.

I installed an adjustable one. I wired in a LED light that's activated when the 2 step is power up. You as well will need to wire in a way to power off the pressure switch circuit after launching the car. A micro switch off the shifter in high gear or a on/off switch, (or both) will work.

I used a standard non adjustable switch from local auto parts, I know Jegs sells a similar one. Mine is 1/8" pipe and threads right into my line lock solenoid, it has multiple ports. I also have a small LED on the dash to indicate the 2 step is activated. I use a transbrake button style switch on my steering wheel to activate the circuit. When I stage my thumb is on the button and when I step on the brake the LED comes on and the 2 step is activated. Release the brake pedal and the 2 step is off. I take my thumb off of the steering wheel button after launch and I can scrub the brake at throttle and not stutter.

Once you have your 2 step activated wouldn’t your car take off if you released the button on the steering wheel? Don’t think buttons on the steering wheels that can be used to control the launch are legal.

Re: 2 step pressure switch question

I should have said I bracket race only in no-box, not a class racer. If you're going to run a brake pressure 2 step and drive the stripe at all with the brake pedal you will need a shutoff switch. I use the pushbutton as it's simpler for me to turn it on and shut it off. I had a toggle switch and in the 1/8th mi. I would forget to shut it off down track so if I scrubbed the brake it would stutter.
To answer your question if I released the button on the wheel the 2 step would release and I would be full throttle on the foot brake so yes it would try to launch as I couldn't hold it on the line at full throttle. I don't have to remove my finger to launch, it controls the power to the brake pressure switch which in turn controls the 2 step.
I use it to level the playing field for me as I'm foot braking in no-box.

Al,
I use a non adjustable 250 psi. pressure switch. I like the lower pressure because I don’t have to push so hard on the pedal to activate. I find that more consistent. I have a micro switch on the first gear detent so it only works in first gear. I also have an on off switch I activate after the burnout that turns on the 2 step and datalogger.

Mine is adjustable. To keep the car staged with all six barrels open it takes a lot of line pressure. I have never had the two step activate during brakeing.

Rulebook clearly states "a hand release is prohibited".

I recommend the low gear micro-switch.

Larry, where did you get your adjustable pressure switch?
