Replace rocker arm bearing
 

Has anyone ever replaced a torrington bearing in a rocker arm. I have one rocker arm on shaft system that is bad. I was able to read number on side of bearing and ordered several sets for just in case. I'm looking for tips on pressing old bearing out and installing new one. I know I could probably sent back to scorpion or buy a new one, but they are being hit in the face with Irma and there's no idea when I would get it back. Thanks.

I made a stepped pin that I use with my arbor press . Support the rocker arm with a socket , and the step in the pin presses on the outer cage of the bearing . Press out the old one , and press the new one to the same dimension . I did this on a Jesel rocker which the edge of the cage had cracked . It worked well .

Freeze the bearing and heat the rocker with a heat gun and they push right in by hand. You can use a socket and the shaft to push the old one out. Done several this way.

If you are pressing a bearing check if the bearing sides are convex or flat ( like the Jessel bearings bulge outward not flat). if you don't press with a driver with a similar contour, it gets crushed, binds the rollers, and eventually cracks the bearing case. Heating the rocker body and cooling the bearing works well with light oil and can get by using a flat surface to press.

...or you could just order a new rocker arm from Jesel. I always carry a spare intake and exhaust rocker, and if one of the rockers on the engine fails, I install the spare and call Jesel the following Monday. That way, I never worry if my rebuilding skills are inadequate.
