Cam change -66 chevy2

Bought new cam to try in 66 chevy2 with motor in stock location. Ended up having to remove bumper and pull up on bottom of grill to get cam out. I didn't remember dad having to remove bumper "back in the days" on same car but then again my memory has slipped some. Would like to hear about other experiences and tips. Thanks

How about removing trans crossmember so you can lower rear of engine, effectively raising nose so cam comes out above the bumper?

I remember way-back when we used to cut a section of the grille out, just to let everyone know we had done a cam swap! Of course it probably meant more on a street car! :D I think Hacksaw has the right idea, if you have enough clearance at the firewall.

I ground the rivets off on the grill and used screws and nuts for quick removal. I switched cams at the track a few times looking for ET. Bumper always comes off with just 4 bolts along with the hood release . The trans deal drop would be awful tight with fenderwell headers and firewall. Just remembered with the big 50 mm cams I don't think they would come out easy. Tom

Tom, that's why dad had screws in for the grill. lol. The bumper removal was not a big deal, it just took a few extra minutes.
