Holley EFI Help

We installed a Holley Dominator EFI system on our Altered and are struggling to reach the expected performance of this package. I realize an Altered isn't a legal Stock/Super Stock package, but I know that many of you have EFI experience.

I'm looking for an EFI expert/guru to review my data and provide feedback to improve the performance. I've had some help along the way, but believe we're missing a lot of power.

The 417 SBC "should" produce 900+ HP, but we're only getting 660 HP.

Who do you lean on when you need EFI help?

Thanks,

Jeff Woodfin

Did you contact Holley?

Your location may help in directing you to a good shop.

I believe Holley has a list of approved dealers and installers.

I would get with Holley. They have some sharp people. Also, if you get the opportunity, their classes are worth attending.

I would recommend Scott Clark.

He can give you immediate help. I would also recommend you attend one of his classes. They are a good value.

He can work with most anything, Holley, FuelTech, Megasquirt and others. He has tuned everything from Bonneville Cars to NHRA ProStock and more. He is a straight shooter and a good guy.

Re: Holley EFI Help

Jeff,
There are a couple of guys on the Holley forum that will help you and also review your system. One of the guys has his own shop and knows his stuff and also races. Have you tuned it on a dyno? Also if you are not running an NTK O2 sensor that could be a source of poor performance. My standard O2 only lasted thru 2 dyno sessions and roughly 15 gallons of C16 when the motor fell on its face while testing. I already had an NTK and the motor came back to life.

There is a lot to be had with the timing and AFR tables, if your timing sync is not correct or stable thru the RPM range that may be another thing to look at.

Might want to dyno it with a carb to verify it is an EFI tuning issue, not the engine.

Ed,

we are borrowing a set of BLP carbs to test with. That will be the telling.

I have worked quite extensively with the Holley system and a pretty wide variety of engines and displacements for endurance and drag racing applications. I would be happy to take a look at your data if you send it to me. If it is far off as you say it is something should glare in the data.
