Q-jet starting issue
I have a Q-jet on my '71 Corvette Stocker (454/365). Whenever it sits for an extended period of time, the carb will not squirt any fuel. It doesn't matter whether or not the fuel pump is running. So I remove and disassemble the carb, find nothing, reassemble and reinstall the carb and it works fine. This has happened the last 3 times I've let it sit for an extended period. Any ideas? Remedies? Common problem?

Re: Q-jet starting issue
What type of pump material are you using? Viton (rubber) or leather? The leather pump material tends to dry and shrink and not pump.

Re: Q-jet starting issue
I'm fairly certain that it is rubber. It is whatever Edelbrock sells in their new rebuild kits. Thanks for your reply. - Ben

Re: Q-jet starting issue
Is there actually fuel in the carb? Have you tried pushing the float down?

Re: Q-jet starting issue
It only happens when the car sits for long periods of time... could it be that the gas is just evaporating?
Edit: duh, if the fuel pump is running, that can't be the problem. Note to self: read others' posts thoroughly before replying. |
