Aftermarket Parts in S/SS

Interesting thread a few years ago. Many guys believed an aftermarket block was no additional power gain. NHRA doesnt penalize engine hp with its incorporation. So, again I ask....what's it worth?

I saw an alum aftermarket head gain 70 hp in one engine over an NHRA adder of 10 rated hp.

The aftermarket blocks are much heavier than a stock block. They are much more durable and probably will make more power. The bowtie block in my car added about 35 lbs to my weight when I made the change. It was a better engine so I am not sure how much better just the block was.

What a block or head might be worth depends on what it's replacing.

An aftermarket block in a Super Stock Big Block Chevy was worth zero point zero horsepower.
