LS3 Head

I see them in the Blueprint guide, what type of head would these fall into? Wedge or inline? I know it may be a disadvantage but can you run an inline head in a higher class that specifically calls out a canted or splayed head or is it limited to the lower class?

Colby,
The term "inline" valve deals with the location of the valve in relation to the adjacent valves.
The term "wedge" deals with the shape of the combustion chamber.

The LS family of cylinder heads are inline with a "bathtub" style combustion chamber.

Hope this helps.

Re: LS3 Head

So where would this head fall class wise in Modified or Modified Stock?

SS/BS class - Inline or Canted Aluminum
SS/CS class - Inline and cast iron only.

Re: LS3 Head

it can run in ss/as or ss/bs not c/s since it's aluminum.

Re: LS3 Head

Mark is correct.
There is a cast iron LS6 head that was, used in the LQ4, 6.0L engine with both cast iron block and heads. They are a copy of the LS6, 15 degree head with cathedral ports. SS/AS is a difficult class because they also allow splayed valve heads.

Re: LS3 Head

I have always wondered if you could use the iron LS heads successfully in SS/CS. It would be easy to build a small 286 cu in LS to make class minimum weight. Has anyone tried it?

Adger,

It should make some crazy power in SS/CS.
As cast, the cylinder head has a 210cc intake port volume.
They are also cheap the same with the 6.0 cast iron block.
I don't think anyone has built one yet.

Can't use those cast iron heads in ss/cs. Heads were only available on a truck...........Unless nhra changed their ruling on this.

Glenn, they changed their ruling and the cylinder heads can used in the Modified class only. Not in the regular SS or GT class.
