3rd Gen (1982-1992) Camaro Header question

For those who have SBC 3rd gen Camaros, does your passenger side header/collector angle towards the drivers side a fair amount? I've always noticed it on the car, but never really cared enough/looked close enough to see if its on purpose. The drivers side is parallel to the centerline, but the passenger side moves considerably towards the drivers side.

I'm putting together a dyno over the winter, the engine is out of the car and on the dyno stand. Its more noticeable, and almost problematic really, with it pointing right into the dyno structure...

Its an easy fix to straighten em out, but don't want to do that only to find out its needed when I put the engine back in the car in the spring. Ive got a pic I took a while back with the car on the lift, but its not good enough to tell if there is something in the way on the passenger side of the collectors...

Anybody with a 3rd gen know???

Kevin

I've got Hooker Super Comps and never noticed that. I've got it on the lift and I'll look closer tomorrow. possibly get a pic.
Tell me about your k member. Are those air bags in the frt. springs?

Thanks Guys.
Eman, I modified the K-member to have a bolt in bottom section for oil pan dropping. I welded keystock to the uprights that the bottom brace bears on to take the shock loading of a rough landing, and four bolts hold it in from the sides. Yes, those are air bags, I put them in to help with rough landings, but since I got the Santhuff struts 2 years ago, I no longer need them, and have since removed them.

1 5/8 race headers on my stocker are angled to follow the factory tunnel bracing, not sure who made them .

Those 82 -92 Lemon Headers are ours ... After working with Dan Lemon a few years back ... I'm thinking 07 or 08, we sent the finished product back to him so he could make a jig and be set up for future customers .. we sent them back a couple times to Dan, and then I had Pat Kronenbitter move the collector in a little for the final modification .. Then we sent them back to Dan and he paid the shipping both ways so he could have the jig .. Its tight on the passenger side as the tunnel/frame comes back in towards the tranny on the way back through .. If it clears , I would be hesitant to move anything .. The tranny makes a difference too, The 3 speeds are worse, as a powerglide has a little more room ...

This post made me curious. I just took a look at my Slayed Valve V-6 headers that are on the engine and it is on a stand. We fabricated these ( There are no store bought sets that I know of) and they do have a slight inward angle on the rt side. It must be how the tunnel is made on those cars.

Interesting. Well, I'll leave it as is for now, and will just make a sheet metal deflector to keep the exhaust off the dyno structure.

Thanks for information gents !!!!

Here's some pics of mine, sorry for the delay, between snow and dead batteries in the camera. The headers are shorter and have a flange at the collector. I made the 3" collector extensions and they have angle built into them. I had to fit them to the car and tack them in place. they only fit one way and are different side to side to clear the subframe.

I'd like to see a close up of your K member. Did you cut it on the car?
