Tire choice

Choice between two tires that had identical sizes and one light weight & one was stiff side wall and one was a W tire with a softer compound than the other that was lite weight with a firm compound.
Application is a 3175 lb door car.
18235 31.5/12.5-15 W* C 13.5" 31.7" 99.5" 12-14" 14" 17.0" D05
18237 13.5/31.5-15 L*** C 13.5" 31.7" 99.5" 12-14" 14" 17.2" C07

W has stiff sidewall softer compound
L is lite weight firm compound

Re: Tire choice

Lightweight is for one thing and one thing only, ET. It's lightweight because there is less tread face and therefore they won't last as long as the non lightweight version.

That said, I run Hoosier's 32/13.5 radial which by design has a stiffer sidewall than a bias slick, on my 3144 lb. former GT Super Stock car with a 900+HP BBC under the hood and won't run anything else.

I have been running the 13.5 X 31.5 radials on my car for a while now with good results. They last a full season.

I get 150 passes on my radials, 60 footing high teens to low 20s.

With light burn outs 150 runs should not be a problem. I usually have 80 - 100 runs when I change them and put the takeoffs on my spare rims for emergencies. They work just as good with 80 runs as new. If I have a class run I will put the worn tires on as they are usually a bit faster because they are lighter.
