a 1968 396/325 hp is a 7028218. you can check NHRA web site under engine blueprint specs. they have the correct numbers

Re: Carb ID and app

Does the number matter to NHRA as long as internal dimensions are correct?

This is for a resto, needs to be the right numbers match that I think now is 702900. Did you know that the min spec has a 15ths grace measurement. Tom

Re: Carb ID and app

Rochester Carb. Stamping Codes

First part of stamping number:
702 - Late 1960's
703 - Late 1960's with Air Injector Reactor (some exceptions exist)
704 - 1970-1975
1705 - 1976-1979
1708 - 1980's

Then Model Year (i.e., 7=1967, 9 = 1969, 0=1970, etc.)

Then Carb. Type
0 - Monojet, Federal Emissions
1 - Two Jet, Federal Emissions
2 - Quadrajet, Federal Emissions
3 - Monojet, California Emissions
4 - Two Jet, California Emissions
5 - Quadrajet, California Emissions
6 - VariJet, Federal Emissions (2 barrel)

Then Division of GM

0, 1, and 2 were all used by Chevrolet (2 used on Cadillac also).
3 - Cadillac
4 - Buick
5 - Olds
6,7 - Pontiac

Then transmission type
0,2,4,6,8 Automatic Transmission (some exceptions exist)
1,3,5,7,9 Manual Transmission (some exceptions exist)

On some carburetors there is a production code (usually a two letter code) stamped below the numerical ID code.

On some carburetors there is a manufacturing date code below the production code.

Example: 2277 would indicate the 227th day of 1967 or 1977, depending on the year specified in the ID code.
