Oil Pressure Problem....
 

I have a 1972 Chevelle I/SA w. a 350. Around the pits, in the burnout, oil pressure is steady and fine. Going down the track, drops to about 20-25 lbs. Lift at the stripe and jumps back up to 60 lbs. Have had engine out, checked bearings, did a leak down, put on dyno, everythin checked out. Anyone have any idea what would cause this?

Justin,
I sounds like an oil pan / pickup problem. Maybe combination of both. How far off the bottom of the pan is the pickup ? Baffles in the pan ? Maybe some more details on the oiling system such as pump, pan etc.

Do you have screens in the oil drain backs?

Do you have a high volume oil pump?

How much oil do you have in the pan?

Have you tried running it with an extra quart in it?

Possibility you have too much oil in the pan.

Call Bub, he has alot experience in this department. Trust me...

I second that, if you have too much oil in the pan, the crankshaft will pick this oil up and wrap it around the crank like taffy.

How much oil do you have in the engine?

Pull the pan off and fill it up with the amount of oil you have been using, this will give you a pretty good perspective on where the oil level is.
