72-73 Super Stock 340
My first post here.
I'm interested in race weight and MPH of a strong, low compression 340 Mopar. You can add 60' and other incrementals as well but, really looking for horsepower based on weight and MPH from a competitive engine. Thank you for the help. |
Re: 72-73 Super Stock 340
You can look in the NHRA Stock Car Classification Guide to find the weight based on the year/model and rated HP of the car you have in mind. Beyond that there are too many variables to predict. Maybe find the car as a stocker based on the guide and look up the class in the rule book. Then compare it to the national records for that class?

Check Nitro Joe's Stats, top of the page is a link. He keeps track of all the runs made at NHRA events. Not to many of those cars currently racing.

Re: 72-73 Super Stock 340
SS/KA = 123 to 125
SS/JA = 125 to 127 These are for a VERY good 340 Low Comp. Our's are a couple slower unfortunately. |

Thanks for the replies.
After registering to Mr. Southerland"s website, I found more helpful direction. I Googled current S/S records and see SS/KA MPH is at 128. Figuring 3266 lbs. for a 72 Duster at minimum K weight comes out to 530 HP to match that MPH. Thanks again for the help. |
Re: 72-73 Super Stock 340
s/st 340, would that 530 hp be flywheel or rear wheel hp?

Re: 72-73 Super Stock 340
I've always used it as flywheel HP.
(MPH x .00426)³ x Weight = HP |
Re: 72-73 Super Stock 340
The LC 340 loves a manual trans and a 72 Demon, 73 Dart Sport have the advantage of a hood scoop.
