Embecco/Masterflow 855 or 885
 

Can anybody tell me who stocks or can get Embecco 885 for Masterflow 885? I want to use it to fill an engine block. Having a hard time locating a bag. Nobody carries it, where I live. The only way they want to get it is if I buy a large quantity. I tried a search on here and found the company that was supposed to have it. I contacted them and was told no. Been tough to try and find it. Not interested in using Hardblok or Moroso. Thanks

Todd, there is a building supply in Cincinnati that sells individual bags of 885 for about $40-$50 a 55lb bag. BASF now owns the company and they call it Masterflow as you said. It works better than anything I've used and costs way less than the others. There are probably a lot of other dealers close to you if you can find where. I called them and the company is Janell @ 513-489-9111 and they will ship it to you. They have 9 bags presently.

Couple of tips Todd, always use very cold cold water (ice water is best), and do not use it in direct sunlight or when it is hot weather. Its best to let is cure slowly in a very cool place. Do not mix it too thin, and keep agitating the mixture as it will settle quickly. It will expand from the chemical reaction and get warm. Be very carful when figuring your fill mark. Like I said it will expand so pay attention to the block level and the amount of fill. Don't get it too high.......not fun or easy to remove......ask me how I know.

Thanks Bob! I've been trying to buy it for a week! Just ordered a bag. Thanks RJ as well. I'll keep all that in mind.

How long should I wait before machining the block? Think a week is sufficient?

I use 885 at the suggestion of Darin Morgan of RMS and Profiler Cylinder Heads.

I pour each side of the block 48 hours apart. I bolt cylinder heads on during the curing process. And I wait a week after the second side was poured before any other work is done. I torque the heads and mains to spec for curing.

Great I was going to torque everything as well. Thanks for the suggested timeframe. I shall do the same.

I use Halco machine grout and leave it sit with heads and mains torqued for a month. I always take small samples in spray can tops.

I leave mine torqued for a month as well. Also for Pontiacs I drill the small water holes in the deck larger to get the funnel in the holes; about 1/2".
