Q-jet Fuel Pouring out

I am new to these Qjet carbs and I put one on the car and as soon as i turned the fuel pump on, fuel came running out of the vent tube and out of the part that plunges in the front bowl (i think that what it does) when you open up the throttle. Sorry to sound like a rookie but is something stuck or broken?

Thanks,

JP

Sounds like you have something sticking like a float or a needle /seat has a piece of dirt or silicone/tape stuck.. Carb needs to be taken apart & checked for dirt in needle/seat or hole/crack in float... When you take everything apart, lay on a towel & put back the same order ? Check main fuel inlet on front or side of Q-jets for silicone or dirt/tape in their ??? Good luck & take your time they are pretty simple to work on !!!!

Also check your fuel pressure; QJ's do not like excessive fuel pressure.

If the carb has been sitting for a while the needle will dry out especially of you are running racing fuel. Let the carb sit for a half hour or so with fuel in it and try again. Cut the fuel pressure back to 6 lbs and try. My car runs good at 6 lbs.

And be very careful with these problems. This is what my Holley was doing when a spark started an engine fire. Toasted my wiring but other than that, alls OK.

If you are referring to me, I had the float adjusted too high and it didn't cut off the flow of fuel into the carb. It just pumped like a fountain until it caught fire.

Holley has you remove the sight plug and turn the adjustment until fuel trickles out the bottom of the hole. I have clear sight plugs now but they are for adjustment only and don't stay on the carb.

Those Push-Off switches are there for a good reason. Killed my pump and let us deal with the fire. Always know where your fire extinguisher is.

I think he was referring to the people who come on these various forums who want and need help, and then you never hear back from them.

In the early 70's, we used clear p'glass and a dial ind..to set the
float level. Depending on launch it was accurate and dependable.

I'm sorry, but I forgot to say to use Viton needle+seats and
NO Teflon tape @ the inlet. An extension for the front vent
tube is helpful.
