Throttle Stop ?
 

I have heard of people out there that bring the stop on at the end of the track over the finish line.Decreasing mph. Is there any truth to this ? And has anybody ever tried it ? Thanks

yes several here in div 1 do this. I saw a roadster doing it and as always Bob Kiester in his wagon. about 118mph in s/g trim. He does pretty well with it.
My thoughts: wind is too much a factor in that far down track to not be under power, also if I was going to do it through the finish line I would have a BIG override button!

Yes there are a few of us that use the top-end stop. Some may disagree and say it's a waste but, if you have it figured out then it can be deadly. We used to run the stop to come on later and run it through the traps at about 108-109mph but, the problem with that is you don't have any control with the car once it comes on. So if the 60 foot was better or worse, wind, etc you are pretty much out to lunch. A few years back we started to set up the car so it would come back on at about 1200 feet. This way people trying to wheel race you get a big surprise when the car comes back on. Depending on the conditions you adjust the cruise rpm in the am. If the weather is warm you set it at 3,200 if it's cool like this weekend at the Dutch you set it at 3,400 because the car is making more horsepower. The next factor is your first and second numbers in the stop. If it's a hot day you keep it at 6.00, if it's cool then 5.75. You then have to adjust the 2nd number to what the weather settings are. Like a Numidia track we'd have 1.05 in the 2nd number because of the altitude. Somewhere like Atco we'd have like 2.60-2.80 depending on weather. Since switching to this setup 4years ago we've gone to 3 final rounds and won at Numidia in 2013 in super gas. Yes wind is a big factor but, also guys with big hoodscoops have a tough time judging you when your in the right lane and they don't catch you till the first cone. Just some insight, there are a few others who do it, only downfall is if you get on a tricky track that may have issues with dew at night when she comes back on make sure both hands are on the wheel.

Thanks for the great info guys. Not sure what you guys mean about the wind factor, I know wind is difficult to predict, But wouldn`t wind have a greater effect on a faster speed ? more friction against 160mph then 100mph right ? Thank you again for the replies.

The wind does effect a car like ours. It's a 64 Nova Wagon, it's like a brick going down the track so when you have a tailwind it pushes it down the track and a headwind it's like trying to fit a block down a narrow hallway. To take an example this past weekend at the Dutch on Thursday we made 3 runs. On the first 2 runs everything was exactly the same except for the numbers in the stop. Went a 9.875 & 9.910, we left the numbers the same for the 3rd shot but, we got a tailwind for the 3rd shot. The car picked up 1 mph in the 1/8 mile (Right past where the grandstands end at Maple Grove) and it picked up 2 mph because the wind was basically pushing a coasting car. The car went 9.852 all because of the wind. Wind factors into a lot of things even if you have a 110mph or 170mph car. Thats why the weather stations become so critical.

Alan Claunch IHRA Div 4 super rod did the same thing with some success, and yes wind would affect his car as well. I think in Tulsa or Nobile he won the race and the runnerup was a high mph car and he blew a front runner out trying to slow down. Very hard to judge a car running 106 to 110 mph.
