Convertibles in Stock Elimnator
I was reading in the NHRA rulebook that convertibles must run with the top up.
However, I did not read anywhere in the Stock section that stated that the top must be operable. (using the factory power system) My question is this : can the power operating system be removed from the car as long as it appears stock in the interior ? |
Re: Convertibles in Stock Elimnator
don't we have the same rule about windows, and with some of the more modern cars there are no option for hand cranks

Nothing in the book regarding this. We need heater and/or AC controls, but not the actual heating and/or AC units. Can't actually see a convertible top with a roll bar or cage being operable anyway. There's a Mustang convertible that runs in our area and I've never seen it with the top down.

Re: Convertibles in Stock Elimnator
I have a 67 Firebird convertible stocker. Currently has an IHRA crate motor. When I was building it a few years ago, I ask this. I built it to be legal for both I and NHRA.
My car has a manual top. The top has all hardware in place to go down, however the rear boot area has sheet metal over it to seal from trunk, so top cant go down. I have a fuel cell, so had to seal it off. I have been through IHRA tech several times at div. races in stock, and no problems. They check the cage and belts, and actually looked to make sure the top latches were in good shape, but never ask about putting top down. Good luck with it. Ken |
