I have LOTS of experience with these they do sorta work if you want to remove while in the car you probably need to remove the balancer. I replaced the special bolts with hex heads and thinned the heads down on a lathe. The middle gasket will try to squirt out on you because of the chrome plating they are also difficult to get to stop oil leaks. It still works better than dropping the pan to change cam timing. But not nearly as well as the Cloyes Hex-Adjust and the Cloyes cover I am now using !

I spent the extra $$$ on the Comp cams three piece cover and I don't regret it one bit! I remember using the proform thinking it would make cam changes on the dyno easy, and it was a real pain in the oil!

I use the Comp Cams cover. It has counter sunk socket head cap screws, which can be difficult to break loose, and you have to use silicone RTV to seal it. However, it works very well, it does not leak, and I can adjust my intake centerline without even removing my harmonic dampner.
I prefer the Cloyes fast adjust timing set, it uses bolts around the perimeter of the cam gear, and has a key that rotates the two halves of the gear easily. |

I used this one, with some modifications. The front pan seal 'lip' is cast into it.
http://kmjperformance.com/small-bloc...ion-plate.html I removed the lip from the alum cover and used the 'lip' plate from this: http://kmjperformance.com/sbc-chevy-...all-block.html The holes in the alum. cover are pretty large. I made some spacers that locate into the recesses in the cover, used studs and 12 point nuts: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ps3bab8d7b.jpg Worked out okay. Still have to remove the balancer to get the cam access plate off, though: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ps361babe3.jpg |
