Super Stock GT
I don't have my rulebook with me at work, does the NHRA let 4 doors run now that the late model rule has been eliminated?

Re: Super Stock GT
Still reads two door only. I checked the amendments, too. I think it has to do with the structural integrity of the car.

Re: Super Stock GT
Bear in mind that when GT was introduced, the current model year car engines were for the most part not viable in SS. Because of that, the cars that were competing were getting older and older and therefore, Detroit's interest in Stock & SS was getting even further deminished. GT was an NHRA effort to make current model year cars more viable. With that in mind, they were looking for something more 'swoopy' so they limited it to 2 doors. As time progressed, the 1985 model year rule didn't change so the idea that GT was limited to relatively current model year wasn't really a factor and inevitably done away with completely. The other interesting limit was that GT was and is V8 only. I'd very much like to build a 4 cylinder GT car but it's not legal. Same issue with non 2 doors as is being questioned, just the way the rules were written at the time.

Re: Super Stock GT
Jim, your Escort is trouble enough in Stock. We don't need you in GT...

structurally, convertibles and 4-door cars flex less due to the fact the frames have thicker gage materials and more structural reinforcements. |
Re: Super Stock GT
Stock, org. Super Stock you can race pretty much any body style. Hell, Competition Plus is showing the build of a station wagon for a mod class in S.S. but a 4 door or a station wagon can't run SSGT. Someone offered me a 91 Caprice for almost nothing, supposibly locked motor. If there was IHRA races closer, I would build a Stock GT car.

Re: Super Stock GT
4 DOOR SEDAN OR 4 DOOR Hardtop is NOT accepted ---any kind of Station Wagon 2-3-4-5-6 doors would be an acceptable car---just not a 4 door sedan/hardtop
