TS Cylinder intermittently closing slowly????

Have a cylinder that intermittently closes slow when going on the stop. Ofcourse this makes the car eratic to dial. We have changed lines, fittings, solonoids and lubed the cylinder.

Bottle is reading 1000 lbs high side, 110 lbs low side, which is what manufacture calls for.

Has anyone else expierenced this?

Re: TS Cylinder intermittently closing slowly????

Yes, so I built a home made throttle stop using a bimba two way cylinder, two Humphfrey solenoids and a adjustable needle valve on the exhaust
Side of one solenoid.
This uses pressure to both close and open the throttle stop by using a needle valve on the exhaust port of the closing solenoid I can slow down the opening rate.
If you rely on a spring to close The throttle when the stop is on you can get erratic closing rates and if you use a restriction such as a needle valve on the pressure line you can get erratic opening rates as well.
I assume you know the. Importance of having a rock solid pedal stop for this type of throttle stop.
You can try just lubing the throttle shafts in the carb with WD 40 but it's a temporary solution only.
If you have any questions you can e mail me @ greatbaer@sbcglobal.net
Note I do not manufacture or sell throttle stops but I will assist you if you want to build a better one.:D

Bill,

Thanks for the help. It is air on and air off. I may have had a bad regulator. I changed it and we will see what that does. It appears to ahve fixed the problem.

That is why I change my cylinder every 3 years. I don't think they want you to lube them.

I've noticed my is doing the exact same thing. Thank goodness for data recorders. It's easy to see and the time where the stop closes slowly is always in the .16-.17 second range.

It's a D'bear TS 30 and gets a lot of use. I also use it for an SLE when bracket racing. I called D'bear and even the tech was knowledgeable he was unable to assist me.

Don, do you have a part number on that cylinder? Is it a Grainger part?

My problem ended up being a bad regulator!

I don't have one available right now. I just ordered the replacement from #1 Stop.

Re: TS Cylinder intermittently closing slowly????

Thanks, Don. Changing every so often is probably a good idea. I don't imagine they cost much.

I'll get mine apart and measure all the specifics and post them here.
