Radia slick mounting.

When using Hoosier radial slicks [9x30-15], what are you doing to deter the tire slipping on the rim, since rim screws are a no/no?

We've had ours move up to 3" even when bead sealer is applied during mounting. Maybe we're not using the right stuff??

I run 21 lbs of air in my 9" Hoosier radial slicks. The have moved up to 3" in the past, but I also swap them side-to-side after each weekend of racing. It's been a while since I checked, but they tend to slip a lot less once they get some runs on them.

The only thing I've done is keep the lip & bead clean to try & keep any mounting lube, soap or water, off of them. But I suppose the wheel lip could be scuffed up a bit with rough sandpaper.

I'm going to go mark them now for my next race!

I don't use anything on mine. They move 2 or 3 inches the first weekend, never move after that. I don't use soap to mount them. I use as low as 13 psi in my radials. Faster cars may have different results. I'm usually 1.26 to 1.28 in 60'. Faster cars may slip them.

Are rim screws not suggested with Hoisers, by wheel manufactor or just in general by other racers?

Re: Radia slick mounting.

DEFINATELY no rim screws with radials---because of the way the tire sidewalls are constructed if the tire moves and the screw breaks it will cut the bead up a recipe for disaster--- use bead locks or nothing at all-- a little slippage is normal on a radial--entirely different construction than a bias tire --ask the manufacturers or spend some time online see what is recommended

Just clean the tire and wheel's bead with acetone and mount them DRY!

Been running radial slicks since 2000 this way, 60 foot 1 teens now and the tires won't move on the rim after the first few hits

Yes, lots of good information. I never heard that about radial slicks, I'm glad I asked too. FED 387, thank you for explaining.
