Mid year corvette cage ?
Getting a cage put in my 66 convertible. I would like to see some pictures of some cages. It is a stock chassis and stock seats. If anyone can post a few pictures it would be a great help. Thanks in advance.

The pics on pages two and three might help. I'll add more to this post if I find them.

I recommend speaking with Tom Goldman, who is on this board. He has crawled all around our cars over the years and knows what needs to be done to make it right. Hope this helps. |
Re: Mid year corvette cage ?
Thanks for replying guys. I seen most of the cages on line as Dale posted. I installed a cage in my 80 with race seats. In the 80 I welded the main hoop down onto the rear cross member up against the inside of the kick up of the rear section of chassis. In the 66 with the stock seats there doesnt seem to be enough room. I was thinking of placing the main hoop onto the kick up but then the rear bars are further back which would mean making the notch in the rear deck much longer. I will just be using the hard top only so I wont have to worry about the soft top interfering. I'll talk it over with the guy whose going to install the cage for me.
Jeff I have a few pictures of your Vette but I cant see the main hoop set points. |
Re: Mid year corvette cage ?
The main hoop is welded to the frame, about even with the crossmember that goes across. My drivers seat is actually under the main hoop and the cross bar that the head rest and seat belts mount to bends back behind the seat. It's all a tight fit...

Jeff if you get a chance can you send me a picture of your main hoop and rear deck? Did you remove the lever and cables to pop the rear deck locks?

Here are a couple of pictures of my car. I just got the car back from being painted. I didn't have to modify any interior parts other than the deck lid. The hard top fits but tight. If you are a tall or bigger guy put a swing out bar in it.

The car was in black primer when I sent you those pictures. The car looks awesome now. I run 29.5 x 9 M/T slick on a M/T wheel 4.5 back spacing. I made my own perch/pads off the frame so that the cage could be welded on a flat surface. I had the guy doing my cage tell me where he want to connect to the frame and then I took the body off the frame and made my perches/pads. If you need any more pictures or have any more question send me a PM. Brett

Re: Mid year corvette cage ?
Just wanted to update this post. I had the cage done by Joe at Thriftway-Auto. He is a member here also and I think his screen name is Badnova.
