Turbo 350 Valve Body
I hope some of you guys can steer me in the right direction. Can you recommend a valve body for my T350? There are many choices as far as brands, band apply, non band apply etc. Unlike everything else I have done to my car, I want to make the right choice and only buy a valve body one time.:)
(I do not want a trans brake). Thank you all in advance. |

ATI reverse pattern no band apply. Make sure you take the band out and make the other modifications in the instructions.

Re: Turbo 350 Valve Body
If you're not using the 2nd brake band, it is a liability, it is in the way, and with the no band apply valve body, there's really nothing to hold it in place.
The instructions will also have you remove or modify a few other parts. |
Re: Turbo 350 Valve Body
Ok. That part I understand now. Are you familiar with the Turbo Action Cheetah valve body with auto 1-2. It doesn't engine brake in 1st gear. Would that be the same no band apply as what your achieving with the ATI reverse pattern with no band apply?

Re: Turbo 350 Valve Body
The band in a 350 is to hold the high gear drum so you get engine braking in 2nd gear. There is a clutch pack in the very back of the trans, that applys for 1st gear braking. You typically don't want that the lo/rev clutch on in 1st gear, because when you make the shift from 1st to 2nd it would need to be released, and could cause drag inside. A 1st to 2nd shift is much cleaner if the lo/rev clutch is not on in 1st gear.

Re: Turbo 350 Valve Body
Doug, the Turbo Action valve body w/1-2 shift uses the governor system, whereas the ATI eliminates the band and the governor. Of course with the Turbo Action, the shift points are determined by changing the weights and springs in the governor. Your choice!!

Re: Turbo 350 Valve Body
Thanks Bob^3240. But is one faster than the other because of band drag?
