Race Fuel Question
Has any of the Stockers out there use or tried Sunoco Race Fuel ??
Will it pass at Fuel Check ?? I have a low compression SBC, will 100 octane be sufficient for my motor ?? I'm currently using VP C-11. |
Re: Race Fuel Question
I've had problems with Sunoco purple passing fuel check. Switched to blue and no problems. C11 will make a little more power in our motors but it costs a whole lot more.

Re: Race Fuel Question
Mine shows more than that, but I had to fatten it to find it. Nearly ten ft lb, but it likes to run from 12.5-1 to 12.8-1 A/F, leaner toward the top. Mine liked the Sunoco best around 13-1.
Your results may vary. LOL |

I think mine is 9.5-1 The other question is: Sunoco Blue is what octane ?? Can i use 100 Octane ???? |
Re: Race Fuel Question
I have never ran anything but Sunoco Purple (110). I have never had any fuel check problems in Divisions 3, 4, and 5 with tech saying anything about it even being questionable on passing. For the cost it is the way to go for my car.

Pete
Sunoco will pass fuel check. Buy it in quantity and be sure it's fresh. Rick told me Sunoco finally updated info to NHRA last year, all should be good at fuel check. Your engine will run on Purple but Blue is faster burning and more consistent batch to batch. Spoke to engineer from Sunoco a few years ago at PRI when doing some research. You will need to change your fuel and timing maps. The best thing to do is buy a drum from a good dealer and store it properly. The fuel will not degrade for a year if in closed metal container out of heat and sun. Hope this helps. |
Re: Race Fuel Question
When I ran my LT-1 Firebird......in 2006-2007
I had C-12 fail and it was fresh from the tracks supplier that very day and came out of a new drum..... at Cecil County. A lot of guys had issues that day from what I saw.... I also had Sunoco purple fail up at Lebanon Valley.....I brought it with me and it was fresh... After those two incidents I used C-11 and drained my fuel cell before going to any NHRA race. Bought fresh fuel when I got there. C-11 always passed. It was no faster.....and the fumes in my trailer were terrible from it... In 2011 Larry Pappas let me race that car (he owns it)and I ran it at Island the week before the Dutch....I used Sunoco purple and ran it all day.....went to the final of a gambler race and made about 7-8 runs.....very consistant and ran well for the weather, Went to the Dutch.....drained the fuel and put fresh C-12 in it....Passed fuel check no problem and ran a little faster but it was more the weather and the track than the fuel making it faster. Maple Gove that time of year is generally faster than Island by a good amount.....I went no more than .05 faster.... An Lt-1 has over 10-1 compression with aluminum heads..... The only reason I ever used C-11 was because it always passed and C-12 had a reputation for failing......as did the Sunoco purple.... |
