Valve spring for cam break in
Looking for input on breaking in a stocker cam.
240@.050 .380 lift. Can I get bye with valve springs with about 70 or 80lbs in the seat for break in? |

Yes, use a break in oil, or a high zinc content petroleum oil. 1.3 rockers are the best to use, but you should be fine. I always run 2 extra quarts in the pan for break in for the splash effect. But, that's just me.

Short rockers are an option but will not work if the push rod holes have not been clearance.
What are your seat and over the nose pressures?/ I build a lot of circle track engines with 135 at the seat and 320 over the nose HYD cam and with 1.5 rockers never had an issue so far. I do use a P-55 cam core and GM lifters with the steel bottoms. |

My main concern if if this pressure it too low for controlling the valvetrain during breakin.
This cam is very aggressive looking. Fast opening rate,almost flat at full lift. I am changing to a different spring after breakin. |

I've done it, but never rev the motor past 3,000 rpm. No one recommended it to me, I've just used it, and had no ill effects in maybe 5 engines. After 20 min. I drain it all out, and install the correct amount. No one has to do it, it's just what I prefer to do.

The question is more about if the valve spring pressure is high enough for a stock eliminator cam.
