Ernie Schorb passes

Nancy Wilson Ernie Schorb passed away this morning In Tallahassee, FL. His arrangements will be handled by Cauley's Meadowood Memorial Park in Tallahassee. Ernie was a 2006 East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame Inductee and he also received the Wally Parks Motorsports Statesman of The Year Award in 2011. He was a supporter of the event and had a love of drag racing that went back to 1951 as a teenage when he jointed the Ramblers Road Club. In 1982 he was inducted into the NHRA Southeast Division Hall of Fame. Throughout his association with NHRA he had both a business and personal relationship with Wally Parks who, in 2000, presented Ernie with a Lifetime Achievement Award for the creation of the NHRA Winternationals concept. In 2002, he received the Pioneer Award from the NHRA at the Gatornationals in Gainesville. In 2005 he received a special tribute during the golden anniversary of the NHRA at the US Nationals in Indianapolis. Ernie will be missed by all us that knew him and loved him. |

I saw the post by Nancy earlier in the day.
Although I never met Mr. Schorb, he was a legend in the drag racing community in Florida. I only heard good things about his contributions to our sport when I arrived there in late 1972. My condolences to his family and friends. Looks like we lost another "great one". Rest-in-Peace Ernie. Lew |

Ernie's bio in drag racing is pages. If you had known him and talked with him he always had a huge interest in making the sport of drag racing better.
