9 x 30 Goodyear question.
 

I've got a 65 ChevyII that I'm building for brackets. I'm currently running a 295/65-15 MT radial for the street/strip. The car is minitubbed, 8-point roll bar, 9" Moser rear with mono leafs and Cal Tracs. I have Calvert shocks in the rear and want to run a 9 x 30 Goodyear slick for better consistency bracket racing. What is a good compound to run, or is there only one for that size tire. Any other suggestions will be appreciated. The car is kind of set up as a Stocker. Dave

I'll tell you what a Stock Eliminator friend of mine told me about those. He says the Goodyears started to slow down after 30 passes or so. He says the Hoosiers last much longer and don't slow down their whole life.

I have never ran the goodyear but I run both the 30X9 Hoosier radial, and the 30X9 bias hoosier and both will hook till the chords are showing.. My car isnt super fast 1.51 60'..

Don't use radials for local bracket racing. Bias will be more consistent under potentially marginal track conditions. But if you can fit a wider tire, do so. Hoosier has a pretty good variety of sizes.

We have run the 9/30 Goodyear for many years.
I run them clear til cord begin to show .. Never slow down.
We have set the Record on a set with very little inspection
hole left.
They also HAVE a 9/30 Bias available but we run the radials on
our both our bracket Valiants because we have no room for
much growth and and bias will rub. We get two seasons
of racing out of them = But we do a conservative Burnout.
I did not see on the posting that he was referring specifically
To Radials.

Thanks for the quick replies. I don't plan on running a radial, and the Hoosiers sound pretty good. Any recommendation on a compound? D5 or D7? Also I race at Norwalk so traction usually isn't an issue. And I only have a 355 with 12-1 CR and Dart 200 heads, 1.76 PG with a brake and may be switching to alky later in the season. Dave

The new compound is doing very well, I have almost 85 runs on my a/sa and still have 50 % tread left. To date I have only spun once and that was due to poor track prep at St. Louis. The compound works very well at Bowling Green at the local combo race and at Sikeston Mo. 1/8 mile bracket track.

Hoosier D07 is good for stick cars.
