Paul, it has never been entirely clear to me how widely the factory 415 horsepower Stage 1 wagons were distributed. The combination was commonly cloned during the 1960s and keeping track of the "real" ones was not a simple task. The attached pictures show three of the twelve possible units you mentioned. Also, it has been suggested that the Ramchargers took delivery of a Dodge wagon.
The wagon that my friend, Ron Mandella, bought new was sold by Milne Brothers in Pasadena and was campaigned by ron for only a short while but it was the A/SA class record holder, the class winner at the 1964 U.S. Nationals and the Stock Eliminator winner at the 1964 Hot Rod Magazine meet at Riverside, California. In 1966 it was sold to Rod Phillips of Arcadia, California and is pictured in the B/SA class run-off at Pomona, racing Tom Crutchfield. Shortly after that event, the car was sold to racers in the Pacific Northwest who raced it competitively under the name "War Ax." More recently, the car has been located, documented, and reportedly is undergoing restoration. |
